We couldn’t be prouder to share some brilliant news from the Equisera team: our Junior Electrical Engineer, Kyron Fine, is starting a Degree Apprenticeship with the University of Lincoln, working towards a BEng (Hons) in Applied Engineering via the Control Systems Engineer standard. This is a genuine investment in one of our own, and it’s a moment worth celebrating.
Kyron already brings nearly a decade of hands-on experience with three-phase electrical systems, from commercial installations to maintenance and beyond. He’s worked on Building Management Systems and even the integration of 1MW ground and air source heating systems, always with that practical, methodical approach that makes him such a reliable pair of hands.
Learning while building
This apprenticeship lets Kyron upskill without stepping away from the work he loves. Over four years, he’ll work through six modules a year, building from strong foundations in Computing and Programming, Electrical and Electronic Technology, and Mathematical Skills for Engineers up to advanced, specialist topics like Control Systems, Mechatronic Systems, Electrical Power and Machines, Smart Energy Systems, Industrial Automation, and Robotics and Automation. He’ll graduate with a full BEng (Hons) alongside his apprenticeship.
The programme is thoughtfully designed around working apprentices, with remote teaching and short, focused campus blocks that keep learning intensive without pulling Kyron away from the team for long stretches. Better still, it includes a workplace-based project at every level, so everything he learns feeds straight back into the real challenges we’re tackling at Equisera, right through to his final work-based project and End Point Assessment.
The importance of control systems engineering
Control systems engineering is at the very heart of clean energy technology like ours. Turning waste into clean energy isn’t just about the chemistry – it’s about precisely monitoring, automating and optimising complex processes so they run safely, efficiently and reliably, around the clock.
From regulating temperatures and pressures to integrating smart energy systems and automating plant operations, control systems are what make advanced decarbonisation technology work at scale. The skills Kyron is building, in areas like data modelling and simulation, industrial automation and smart energy systems, map directly onto the challenges of designing and running the next generation of clean energy plants. We’re not just investing in Kyron’s future; we’re investing in the expertise that will help power Equisera’s growth for years to come.
